ARTIST
IN THE MAKING
As a child I loved painting, doodling, and coloring in books.
My Grandmother noticed how much I liked art, so she asked me
to draw a simple house. First she demonstrated how to connect
the lines to create a house. I made my own house drawing and
then we shaded it together. Reflecting on my past, these simple
instructions were my childhood building blocks. Her support
nurtured the artist who I am today.
Grandma was surrounded by art supplies on a daily basis and
these memories are still vivid. She was known for tollpaintings
and classes at TMA. I loved spending time at her craft-store,
the "Funhouse"
in Toledo, Ohio. |

Often
on the weekends, we would be painting plaques or stringing beads
together for keychains. By second grade, I had completed a ceramic
project without exploding it in the kiln. Later in eighth grade
my teacher asked me to paint our class mascot on the windows.
Jumping ahead to High School, I was involved with the theatre.
There were projects for set construction, stage design and a
poster design for one of the plays. |
