MADONNA
and CHILD |
|

Italians
termed this style "Chiaroscuro" a
mixture of India Ink and water. I chose to paint the classical
theme of "Madonna and Child" in India Ink. This icon
has endured for centuries. Earlier paintings consisted of angels,
clergymen, and commissioners staged inside churches or in landscape
settings. The Byzantine and Renaissance era yielded several
influential citizens who were politically motivated to sponser
her image. Driven by religious purposes, clergymen promoted
the movement of her icon throughout Europe and beyond. Above
are three samples from the past. |
